Christmas in my family means many things, including serving week-old Wassail. There’s an old saying in our band of misfits: The longer it sits, the better it gits!
My goal was to enhance the feeling of warmth with warm tones and the textures of hand-carved wood. That being said, there were a few challenges to setting up this shot, including managing the shadows in a way that is not distracting the viewer and backlighting the fruit enough to show the succulence. I used a softbox for the foreground, from the sidelight. To bring in some interesting reflections, I used vegetable oil, dripped from the spoon in the foreground.
